Solly is a 22 year-old independent self-taught singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist currently based in Leeds, Uk. He writes and performs his own music, is both a solo artist and performer, whilst also a member of five-piece funk band, ’Still Royal’. His musical style blends Soul, Jazz and R&B, is characterised by his soulful, expressive vocals, paired with soft keys and the use of guitar; resulting in a deep, rich sound. Inspired by the works of Jeff Buckley and Amy Winehouse.

Solly is a 22 year old independent self-taught singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, currently based in Leeds, UK. Growing up in the Kent countryside and latterly, Hastings by the sea, he has recently graduated from Leeds Art University with an honours degree in music performance.
He is now focusing on writing and performing his original music as both a solo artist, and as a member of five-piece, jazz-funk band, ’Still Royal’.
Being primarily a vocalist, he is also a strong multi-instrumentalist; with a developed technical ability on piano (G8), guitar and is currently learning bass. His musical style blends Jazz, Soul, and R&B, particularly characterised by soulful, expressive vocals, paired with soft keys and the use of guitar; resulting in a rich, complex sound.
Influenced by the works of a combination of long-time inspirations (Jeff Buckley, Lauren Hill, Amy Winehouse) and progressive contemporaries (Frank Ocean, Daniel Caesar, Tom Misch).
First single - ‘I'm not losing you’ - released on Aug 6, 2021.
Last December, Solly had the amazing opportunity to perform a solo accompanied by RNCM (Royal Northern College of Music). He has performed live as a solo musician and as part of funk band - ‘Still Royal’ over this last year, With strong experience in many different professional settings, such as at events, in pubs and restaurants, Solly is an extremely versatile musician that has performed extensively as a solo performer and as part of a band. Having performed at venues in Leeds such as Belgrave Music Hall & Venue, Headrow House, Wharf Chambers, and Old Red Bus Station, he is thoroughly experienced with all aspects of solo and group performance.
With more opportunity to perform at live music events, he is focusing on recording and producing an new upcoming single and EP, which he will be releasing soon. Currently preparing for his first headline slot at The Retro in Manchester, on the 23rd November. His band are in the process of recording their first few songs, ahead of an album release next year. He is also working on a collaborative EP with a local artist from Leeds. Aiming to develop his presence within the local Leeds music scene, as an emerging LGBTQ+ artist and mental health advocate, his original music aims to resonate with a specific audience.
His music will resonate with those who are fans of SAMPHA, Jordan Rakei, James Blake. His original music pushes boundaries with his intimate lyrics paired with soft, airy vocals. Although, his original music is positive and upbeat, there is a deeper message to his lyrics. Solly has been on a long journey of his mental health since he was young, he has previously struggled with severe depression and anxiety. There are multiple layers of meaning within his music, as he explores many different genres through an upbeat lens.
